Frequently asked questions

Questions families ask us

Plain answers about cost, eligibility, visits, and how home health works — for families across Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Ventura Counties.

Coverage & cost

Does Medicare really pay for this? What will we owe?

Home health visits are covered by Medicare for eligible patients with a physician's order. No surprise bills for covered care. Under Original Medicare, there is no copay for covered home health visits. If you have Medicare Advantage or another type of coverage, plans differ — call us and we'll verify your coverage before care starts.

Do we need a doctor's order? How do we get one?

Yes. A doctor orders home health care and signs a plan of care. Care is ordered by a physician — we cannot start without it. If your doctor has already recommended home health, ask them to send the order to us. If you are not sure, call (626) 461-5271 and our intake staff will help you take the next step with your physician.

What's the difference between home health and a caregiver (home care)? And hospice?

Home health is intermittent skilled care — nursing or therapy — ordered by a physician and covered by Medicare for eligible patients. A caregiver, or home care, is non-medical help with daily living, hired privately and not ordered by a doctor. Hospice is comfort care at the end of life. Home health is aimed at recovery and managing a condition at home.

Care & visits

How often will someone come, and how long do visits last?

How often a clinician visits is set by the plan of care your physician signs — it depends on your condition and needs, not a fixed schedule. Visits typically last 30 to 60 minutes. As you progress, the plan of care can change, and we document every visit and report changes back to your doctor.

How soon after hospital discharge can visits start?

We respond to referrals the same day. Once your physician or a discharge planner sends us the order, our intake staff follows up with you to confirm details and schedule the first visit. The sooner we receive the order, the sooner we can begin — call (626) 461-5271 if you want to check on a referral.

Can we request a clinician who speaks Armenian, Russian, or Spanish?

Yes. Our clinicians and office staff speak English, Armenian, Russian, and Spanish. Patients explain symptoms in the language they think in. Let our intake staff know which language you prefer when you call, and we will do our best to match you.

Can family be present during visits?

Yes — family is welcome and encouraged to be present. Visits go better when a family member is there to learn the care, ask questions, and help carry out the plan of care between visits. You are welcome to take notes and to share anything that helps us understand the patient's day-to-day.
